ARTJ 211F - Jewelry and Metalsmithing II

Prerequisite(s): ARTJ 210 .
A continuation of ARTJ 210 , this course provides further introduction of the tools, techniques, and materials of the professional jeweler/metalsmith. Emphasizes working more 3-dimensionally with greater complexity. (Spring Semester)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Analyze and discuss advanced concepts, materials, and processes in jewelry and metal forming.
  • Create original works that demonstrate technical development in metalworking and express personal imagery or concepts.
  • Execute advanced metalworking processes, including wax carving, spruing, investing, and casting, to create finished jewelry or art objects.
  • Apply principles of design and conceptual development to the creation of metalwork.
  • Discuss and evaluate significant themes and practitioners in historical and contemporary metalworking.
  • Apply basic techniques for setting faceted stones in original metalwork.
  • Examine and articulate the role of jewelry and metalworking as a reflection of personal or cultural themes.
