AHMS 250 - Advanced Medical Coding Credit(s): 4
Prerequisite(s): AHMS 210 , AHMS 219 . This capstone course provides students the opportunity to code from medical files using ICD-10-CM and CPT codes as necessary, complete appropriate insurance forms, and place the necessary codes on the 3M encoder software system. This course helps students bridge the gap between theoretical class work and practical application. (Spring Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to - Evaluate major alternatives (using relevant sources) when solving problems, formulating a point of view, or making a decision.
- Assess medical record for necessary components and code appropriately for reimbursement.
- Use encoder software to arrive at the appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
- Determine the main question to be answered, problem to be solved, or issue to be resolved.
- Identify the most critical implications and consequences of their reasoning.
