CSTN 148 - Blueprint Reading, Codes, and Estimating

Corequisite(s): CTSN 100, CSTN 120, CSTN 142 or instructor’s consent.
CSTN 148 focuses on interpreting construction documentation and navigating regulations. The course provides an in-depth study of blueprints and specs, covering terminology and symbols. A major component is applying the International Residential Code (IRC) and local laws. Students are also introduced to 2-D CAD and 3-D modeling and the plan submission process. (Fall and Spring Semesters)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

Interpret construction documentation by accurately reading and classifying blueprint symbols, components, and specifications (specs) to extract design information.
Apply jurisdictional codes and processes by locating design requirements in the International Residential Code (IRC) and outlining the procedures for plan submission based on state and local regulations.
Outline basic drawing principles in 2-D CAD and describe the conceptual use of 3-D Models for construction design.
