CSTN 120 is a hands-on course focusing on fundamental wood frame construction. Building on prior knowledge, students gain practical skills in constructing essential structural components. The course covers materials, fasteners, adhesives, and construction techniques for floor, wall, ceiling, and gable roof systems. Students also learn to identify and apply standard doors and windows. (Fall and Spring Semesters)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

Differentiate common building materials by describing the applications and appropriate use of fasteners, adhesives, windows, and interior and exterior doors.
Construct load-bearing assemblies by correctly applying layout, framing, and construction techniques for wooden floor assemblies, walls, ceilings, and gable roofs in a practical setting.
Successfully apply basic safety requirements, standardized signals (e.g., ANSI), and best-practice techniques to safely manage the lifting and movement of construction loads.
