CSTN 100 is an introductory course providing the foundation for the construction trade. It focuses on safe, professional, and high-performance work. Key areas include job-site safety, proper tool use, and team-based communication. Students also cover blueprint reading fundamentals and an overview of carpentry careers. (Fall and Spring Semesters)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

Analyze safety protocols and hazard control by explaining the financial impact of safety, defining the obligations of workers and management, and applying best practices for recognizing and mitigating common job-site hazards (e.g., LOTO, PPE, HazCom).
Articulate the professional, historical, and technical context of the construction trades by recognizing industry terminology and discussing career pathways in carpentry.
Apply core construction skills by selecting and safely using essential hand / power tools, and interpreting drawing dimensions.
Recognize the different types of blueprint drawings (civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing/piping, and electrical).
Identify, discuss, and practice relationships that promote a team-centered approach to a high-performance worksite.
