DANC 100F - Introduction to Modern Dance Credit(s): 3
Introduction to basic modern dance vocabulary through exercises for alignment, strength and flexibility, and combinations across the floor. (Fall Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Describe Modern Dance as a form of expression.
- Apply fundamental dance techniques, including warm-ups, improvisation, and phrase work, to increase physical awareness and confidence.
- Demonstrate artistry by applying principles of natural musicality, including breath, weight, gravity, and momentum.
- Create and develop unique movement sequences, organizing the material into an original dance work, both individually and collaboratively.
- Evaluate and objectively discuss dance performances, analyzing both technical execution and expressive qualities.
- Articulate a broad appreciation for dance as an art form.
