This course teaches Trades Institute students the professionalism they need to be successful in the workforce. Students create a working resume and cover letter, as well as learn interviewing and salary negotiation techniques. Topics covered include networking and communication, time management, and professional appearance. (Fall and Spring Semesters)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

Identify and evaluate potential employers within the skilled trades sector and demonstrate strategies for initiating professional connections with industry professionals, unions, and workforce organizations.
Develop and refine essential career materials, including a working resume, cover letter, and individualized career action plan tailored to employment pathways in trades and technical fields.
Apply and practice effective interview techniques, including verbal and non-verbal communication strategies, with a focus on real-world expectations in trades-based hiring scenarios.
Analyze and interpret job offers and compensation packages, and demonstrate understanding of salary negotiation strategies, benefits, and employment terms common in trades careers.
Demonstrate and model professional behavior expected in trades workplaces, including effective time management, clear communication, workplace etiquette, personal presentation, and appropriate use of professional networks.
