THTR 120F - Introduction to Acting I Credit(s): 3
The focus of this course is interactive development of basic acting skills through psycho-physical technique: dramatic action, image-making and improvisation. (Fall Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Analyze and apply basic acting vocabulary, techniques, and processes (such as objectives, tactics, and given circumstances) to create a believable and artistic performance.
- Analyze and evaluate a dramatic script in acting terms to identify its given circumstances, objectives, and character actions.
- Identify and explore foundational approaches to building a character, utilizing the actor’s physical and vocal apparatus.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact with scene partners and the performance space to create the synergy necessary to bring dramatic life to the stage.
- Examine the role of the theatre arts as a reflection of personal or cultural themes.
- Develop and articulate critical and analytical skills for evaluating one’s own acting process and the performances of others.
