GDSN 148F - Digital Illustration I Credit(s): 3
This is a beginning course in digital illustration using Adobe Illustrator and/or other industry standard software. Students will develop vector-drawing abilities through a variety of skill-based assignments, with an emphasis on concept, creativity, technical achievement and presentation. In addition, students learn file preparation standards for production, including file formats, color palettes and image resolution. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Create original digital artwork by utilizing vector software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator) to translate traditional drawing and painting techniques into the digital medium.
- Express individual creativity by developing cohesive visual narratives and conceptualizing original illustration solutions through sketching and idea generation.
- Interpret and respond to creative briefs by developing conceptual designs (e.g., logos, icons) and applying illustration techniques to a basic branding system.
- Execute a professional digital workflow, manage file preparation (layers, resolution, color modes), and prepare final files for various digital output formats.
