ARTZ 224F - Watercolor I Credit(s): 3
A study of the history, materials, techniques and presentation of transparent watercolor, this course considers a variety of subject matter. Summer classes will be conducted “en plein air” (outdoors) weather permitting. (All Semesters)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate basic technical skills in observational rendering , paint handling, formal composition, and color theory/mixing.
- Identify and utilize the diverse tools, materials, and techniques specific to transparent watercolor.
- Apply critical and conceptual thinking to visual problem-solving, developing a personal visual language and expression.
- Discuss the history of the medium and its foremost practices, past and present, connecting them to broader cultural themes.
- Develop and present a portfolio of original, finished works that demonstrate craftsmanship and effective visual communication.
