ARTZ 211F - Drawing I: Life Drawing Credit(s): 3
Prerequisite(s): ARTZ 105 . This is a course designed for the more advanced student. It is expected that prospective students will understand and be capable of demonstrating basic techniques and applications of media. The course is committed to the drawing of the human figure. The first sessions are dedicated to the physiology of the body, the skeletal structure first and then the muscular organization. It is a course aimed at encouraging the student to develop his or her own way of assimilating previous drafting knowledge with the intricacies of the human form. This course may be repeated for a total of nine credits. Students receiving financial aid or veteran’s benefits should check with the Financial Aid Office before repeating this course. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Examine the human figure, including its skeletal and muscular structure, to develop observational drawing skills.
- Produce drawings, from quick gesture analyses to sustained renderings, that demonstrate an understanding of proportion, volume, and the human form.
- Create original works that utilize diverse artistic media and techniques, demonstrating an awareness of two-dimensional compositional principles.
- Develop visual problem-solving strategies and creative approaches to express individual creativity.
- Participate in class critiques, applying critical thinking to analyze and justify your own work and the work of peers.
