ARTZ 106F - Visual Language-2-D Foundations

A foundational course designed to present basic concepts, this course focuses on organization, structure, and composition of form through the use of basic design elements, such as line, shape, and value, and emphasizes design development related to two-dimensional art. (Fall Semester)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Identify and describe the elements of art and principles of design using appropriate visual terminology.
  • Apply design elements and principles to create original works of art, utilizing a variety of media and techniques to solve visual problems.
  • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art (both personal and peer) through critical feedback, class discussions, and writing.
  • Relate works of art to their societal, cultural, and historical contexts to deepen understanding.
  • Synthesize personal experiences and knowledge to construct meaning and develop an individual visual language.
  • Utilize diverse artistic media and techniques to create original works that effectively express their individual creativity and explore personal or cultural themes.
