Prerequisite(s): instructor’s consent. This course studies and performs jazz repertoire, which may include swing, jazz, popular, and more. (Fall and Spring Semesters)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate confidence on their instrument
- Demonstrate the basics of proper technique and musical interpretation
- Exhibit how to read a basic musical score
- Understand and synthesize information regarding the basic function of a jazz ensemble and become familiar with jazz literature
- Demonstrate knowledge of jazz ensemble concepts through performances
- Be able to create and perform improvised solos, jazz progressions, and other applicable exercises
- Explain knowledge of jazz form and technique
