AHST 215 - Surgical Lab II Credit(s): 3
Prerequisite(s): AHST 216 . Corequisite(s): AHST 202 and AHST 250 . This course presents entry level responsibilities and competencies of the surgical technologist and related nursing procedures in the first scrub, second scrub, and circulator roles. This course includes simulation, role playing, problem-solving sessions, and clinical observation experiences. (Fall Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the surgical technologist scope of practice and surgical conscience in healthcare.
- Identify and demontstrate additional and advanced preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedural techniques in association with the operating room, equipment, supplies, instruments, and the surgical patient.
- Demonstrate advanced asepsis, disinfection and sterilization in regards to the operating room, instruments, supplies and the surgical patient.
- Demonstrate advanced safety, legal and moral concepts and actions in regards to themselves and patient care.
