EMEC 250 - Mechanical Engineering Materials Credit(s): 3
Prerequisite(s): CHMY 121 or CHMY 141 . This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of materials science and engineering. It covers the chemistry and internal structure of solid materials, and the relationship of structure to material properties. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of materials science, particularly the effects of composition and structure (subatomic, atomic, micro-, and macro-structures) on the material properties (including mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic, optical, and deteriorative properties) of metals, ceramics, polymers and composites. Students will also develop an awareness of modern materials challenges and opportunities. (Fall Semester)
