Prerequisite(s): M 153 or equivalent and high school trigonometry. This is the first semester of a two-semester sequence for students who need physics to support work in other fields. It may not be used as a prerequisite for advanced work in physics. The mathematical study, using algebraic, trigonometric, and vector methods of Newtonian mechanics of solids and fluids including forces, motion both linear and rotational, equilibrium, work and energy, momentum, conservation laws, kinetic theory and thermodynamics, and vibrational and wave motion. Laboratory work is included. (Fall Semester)
