PHOT 154F - Exploring Digital Photography Credit(s): 3
A beginning course about digital photography and the digital darkroom, students learn about capturing technology of digital cameras and scanners, digital shooting techniques and computer transfer technology of monitors, printers and graphic programs. (All Semesters)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Demonstrate proficiency with digital camera controls, including the manual adjustment of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to achieve proper exposure.
- Apply foundational principles of design and elements of composition to create visually effective photographs that communicate specific ideas.
- Analyze and work effectively with various lighting situations, including natural light, and apply knowledge of exposure and color theory to solve aesthetic problems.
- Utilize post-processing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop) to manage, edit, and enhance digital images.
- Prepare digital images for various outputs and produce a finished, matted, and/or mounted print suitable for display.
- Examine the historical and contemporary role of photography as a reflection of culture and a medium for personal expression.
- Create a cohesive body of original work that utilizes diverse photographic techniques to express individual creativity and explore a personal or cultural theme.
