DANC 100F - Introduction to Modern Dance

Introduction to basic modern dance vocabulary through exercises for alignment, strength and flexibility, and combinations across the floor. (Fall Semester)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Describe Modern Dance as a form of expression.
  • Increase awareness and confidence in the moving body by application of dance warm up, improvisation, technique and phrase work. 
  • Find artistry in each body by recognizing natural musicality: breath, weight, gravity, momentum.
  • Create and develop unique movement sequences, collaboratively organizing that material into a dance.
  • Evaluate and objectively discuss dance performance (including technique and expression).
  • Defend a broad appreciation of dance.
