MUSI 280v - Composition II: Spring Credit(s): 2
Prerequisite(s): MUSI 280u . This course is a continuation of MUSI 280 Composition II: Fall that explores the craft of composition through the creation of original musical works, and the study of composition techniques and repertoire. Students will gain knowledge of a broad range of repertoire, aesthetics, and compositional techniques. (Spring Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Build upon previous knowledge and experience to apply and construct new compositions.
- Understand the historical context, cultural effect and artistic purpose of new compositional techniques.
- Analyze compositional techniques, especially those of the 20th Century.
- Demonstrate understanding by applying compositional structures, techniques and methodology to personal works.
- Critique and analyze their own musical works and the works of others to ascertain the effectiveness of artistic choices.
- Demonstrate an understanding of new notational practices and instrument capabilities.
