HVC 215 - Central Air Conditioning and Indoor Air Quality Credit(s): 3
Prerequisite(s): HVC 101 and HVC 130 . This course covers the installation, maintenance and repair of common air-conditioning equipment and the significance of indoor air quality. Topics include equipment components, associated controls, and schematic diagrams. Indoor air quality instruction includes implications for building occupants and relevant products. (Spring Semester)
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
- Explain types of air-conditioning equipment, controls, and troubleshooting
- Explain superheat and sub-cooling
- Explain refrigerant pressures and temperatures and how they relate to each other
- Explain comfort and psychometrics and how they relate to each other
- Demonstrate troubleshooting procedures on air-conditioning systems
- Discuss indoor air quality and its significance in buildings and their occupants
- Explain air source heat pump & components, controls, and troubleshooting
- Explain geothermal heat pump classifications, water quality, confirgurations, and troubleshooting
