HTH 101 - Opportunities in the Health Professions

This course is intended to offer students an opportunity to explore the world of health care. Through research, discussion groups, and observations, students will explore various career paths in the medical field. Students will identify the educational requirements for various medical field careers and will explore one potential career in depth. Some of the topics to be discussed are characteristics of medical field personnel, certifications and licensing, educational paths, medical field systems, and law and ethics pertaining to medical field professionals. (Fall Semester)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Identify and reflect on personal skill sets and medical field career interests. 
  • Describe different medical field careers including roles, responsibilities, and employment opportunities. 
  • Explore educational requirements for different medical field careers. 
  • Summarize the expected ethical and legal behavior of a medical field provider.
  • Understand ways to research and pursue future career paths in the medical field. 
  • Utilize resources to research and gain in-depth knowledge of a medical field of interest.
