 This course examines the classroom practices that impact elementary-aged children’s learning, motivation, and development within an educational, familial, and societal context. Topics include physical, cognitive, and psychosocial developmental growth of children. (Fall Semester)
 
 Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
 
 Describe how learning and development are related, and make application to educational practice. Describe how socioeconomic and culture factors interact with learning. Describe how cognitive development processes interact with student learning and apply this knowledge within the scope of one’s anticipated practice. Discuss positive and negative aspects of various instructional practices and understand the impact of various teaching methodologies on learning outcomes. Analyze data related to characteristics of effective teachers and cite research about effective instruction. Understand and describe the contextual elements of professional education that make it complex.
