FT 201 - Gun Bluing Credit(s): 3
Prerequisite(s): acceptance into the Firearms Finishing program or instructor’s consent. This course presents the chemical processes and procedures used to produce a black oxide finish on firearms or any steel part, except for stainless steel, utilizing the hot caustic immersion and rust bluing processes. Metal preparation, bluing room design, equipment, chemicals, and safety factors will be covered. Polishing techniques and metal preparation utilizing primarily hand techniques will be emphasized. Student skills will be developed by applying these processes to test pieces, tools, and/or project firearms. (Fall Semester)
