JPNS 102H - Elementary Japanese II


Credit(s): 4

Prerequisite(s): JPNS 101 or instructor’s consent.
This course’s primary goal is to further develop student understanding of the language and culture of Japan. Students will further develop grammar and conversational skills and continue to examine Japanese culture. (Intermittently)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Discuss leisure activities, food, and family; order at a restaurant; and express opinions and solicit those of others.
  • Describe Japanese culture, including customs, annual observances, the school system, family life, and social interaction.
  • Function linguistically in specific situations and interpersonal relationships and make introductions, identify and describe things, people, activities, and events in a simple manner, ask questions about location and distance and obtain directions, and gain fluency in other basic communicative needs.
  • Utilize basic grammar and use the grammar patterns to create sentences related to daily life,
  • Speak in ways that are socio-culturally acceptable in authentic contexts, acquiring correct pronunciation and making appropriate use of vocabulary and common expressions.
  • Examine the nature of human experience and/or artistic expression.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the self as a member of a multicultural global community.
