JPNS 101H - Elementary Japanese I

This course’s primary goal is to bring students directly in touch with the language and culture of contemporary Japan. Students will acquire basic grammar and conversational skills and get acquainted with the Japanese culture. (Intermittently)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
  • Read and comprehend basic expressions and sentences written in hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
  • Write basic sentences with correct vocabulary and structures on familiar topics.
  • Engage in simple conversations about topics regularly encountered in daily life and classroom situations such as greetings and commands.
  • Explain aspects of Japanese culture.
  • Examine the nature of human experience and/or artistic expression.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the self as a member of a multicultural global community.
