NASX 105G - Introduction to Native American Studies

Prerequisite(s): ANTY 101  or ANTY 220  is recommended.
The traditional cultures of North America: the origin and distribution of native populations, their life ways prior to European contact, and the consequences of contact between Indians and non-Indians in North America after 1492 are explored. (All Semesters)

Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to
 

  • Describe the basic characteristics of the Native American cultural areas of the United States.
  • Recognize the key figures in Native American history (including art, literature, politics, and the sciences).
  • Explain Indian history prior to 1492.
  • Discuss current problems, issues, and concerns of American Indians.
  • Demonstrate awareness of self as a member of a multicultural global community.
